Range Rules

General Rules

  • All firearms must be cased and unloaded when entering the store or range, excluding law enforcement.
  • Concealed carry firearms must remain concealed at all times while in the store.  Only when on the range and in a shooting stall may the concealed firearm be unloaded if they are to be fired.
  • All persons using the firing ranges must successfully view the range safety video/briefing and read the range safety rules.
  • All persons using the firing ranges must sign a waiver, once every 12 months.
  • No one under the age of 18 is allowed on the ranges without a parent or guardian.
  • Children must be at least 10 years old to shoot firearms.
  • Children under the age of 14 must be assisted at all times by a parent or Range Safety Officer.
  • A valid Illinois FOID card or out of state government picture ID is required to rent firearms and to use the firing ranges.
  • Firearms may only be rented to patrons having brought in their own firearms or are with another person.
  • All persons using the firing ranges cannot be under the influence of alcohol, narcotics or marijuana, including the odor of such products.
  • No pregnant women are allowed in the shooting ranges.

Range Rules

  • All persons using the firing ranges cannot be under the influence of alcohol/narcotics or marijuana, including the odor of such products.
  • Always keep firearms pointed in a safe direction. Treat all firearms as if they were loaded.
  • Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.
  • Keep your firearm unloaded until you are ready to shoot.
  • Be sure your firearm is in good working order.
  • Be sure you use the correct ammunition in your firearm.
  • Dry firing is allowed on the firing line only.
  • Keep firearms pointed down range at all times while on the range.
  • No drawing from a holster.
  • Only one firearm may be on the bench at a time.
  • Do not pass loaded firearms from one booth to another.
  • If a jam or other malfunction occurs and you cannot clear the problem, leave the firearm on the shooting bench and ask the Range Safety Officer for help.  Do not leave the firing line with a loaded or jammed firearm.
  • Report any negligent discharges or damage to equipment immediately.
  • If a cease fire is called, unload your firearm with the cylinder open, or slides locked back, and step back from the shooting position.
  • Never move forward of the firing line or shooting booths.
  • Eye and ear protection is mandatory before entering the range.
  • Use only authorized firearms on the range.
  • Do not cross fire at targets on other lanes.
  • Use only approved targets.
  • Smoking, eating or drinking is prohibited on the range.
  • Shotguns may use slugs only, subject to inspection.
  • Rifle caliber firearms and shotguns firing slugs may only be fired on lanes 1-6. (Subject to range availability)
  • Customers firing centerfire rifles must purchase ammunition from C.I. Shooting Sports to guard against tracer ammunition combusting in rubber backstop.
  • All magazines must be unloaded before entering the range. This is to guard against use of unauthorized and dangerous ammunition.
  • No tracer, armor piercing, steel core ammunition, steel, or aluminum cased ammunition is allowed.
  • Only jacketed, semi-jacketed, or coated bullets are allowed.  No solid lead.
  • Rifle ammunition is limited to .30 caliber.
  • All center fire ammunition must be jacketed except 22 caliber rim fire or slugs.
  • Any firearm that is chambered in a rifle caliber or shotgun is required to have the target at the maximum distance on the range; this includes both shoulder mounted and pistol grip firearms. 

 

Anyone displaying unsafe actions will be warned to correct their behavior, and/or be asked to leave.  C.I. Shooting Sports reserves the right to refuse use of the range or service to any person for any reason.

 

All shooters are required to watch our range safety video in-store prior to using the range.
